this past week was crazy.  not a single full day of school.  monday we had staff in-service…woo hoo!  for those of you that are teachers out there you can sense my sarcasm. tuesday and wednesday we had 2 hour delays because of snow, and thursday and friday were completely cancelled because of snow and ice.

i can tell i’m really becoming a teacher down deep because though i don’t complain when we have days off of school for weather, i really would rather be in school because i know what i want to get done and what i actually have planned.  as far as proof that it snows in the desert, here are some pics from saturday morning.

you can see leia in the picture above.  as you can see the video from my last post is quite old based on how big leia is now.  currently she’s a gigantic puppy with no understanding of how big she it.  in spite of her size though, marley still feels like she can boss her around.  throughout the day we hear marley (in her language) telling leia “no!”, “sit”, and “stay”.

with the time off of school i took zoe to the movie theater for the first time.  for those of you that know zoe at all, you understand why i’ve been a little hesitant to take her to a public theater, what with respect to silence in the theater and all.  we saw the princess and the frog and fortunately we were the only ones in the theater.  turns out she was pretty much engrossed the entire time and didn’t even take the time to remove her winter jacket. she liked the movie and during our trip to albuquerque on friday got some princess tiana pajamas from the disney store.

zoe also started ballet class this past week.  she loves it and likes to show us everything she’s learned from the bear crawl

to the bunny hop

to the “princess moves”…her favorite of course

needless to say, zoe and marley keep us busy from sun-up to sun-down.  it’s been fun seeing marley start to grow up and be able to interact with zoe.  they’re really learning to play together and though at this point play times usually end up with zoe doing something to make marley start screaming, its great to see them start to get closer as sisters.

on another note, last night we had people over for korean/asian food and games.  just regular games, not korean games…though i do miss those.  we definitely need to get some people together to play that game where you take turns jumping on the person’s back who’s bent forward against the wall…don’t remember the name.  bought some kimchi from the albertson’s and was actually pleasantly surprised.

well that sums up the past week for us.  because of the weather i got to spend a lot of time at home with laura and the girls which i’m really grateful for.  it’ll be nice to hopefully get back to a regular week of school now, however it looks like another snow storm may be coming through at the end of the week.  we’ll just see what happens.  hope you all are doing well and i hope you’re proud of me for keeping this up for almost a month.  talk to you all soon.

so week two of my blog and i’m still going strong.  the week was pretty uneventful although i showed the movie Apollo 13 in my class and was reminded again of how good a movie that is.  it also made me think of how sad it is how much movies dictate what we know of history.  i’m teaching astronomy right now in my 9th grade science class and no one in the class new which Apollo mission was the first to reach the moon.  all but one of them knew that Apollo 13 almost crashed…and that one kid that didn’t know about Apollo 13 moved to states from Ethiopia 3 months ago.  how many of you know which Apollo mission made it to the moon?  anyways, enough about that.

had a good small group meeting today.  we watched a nooma video that talked about how important silence is…how important it is to listen for God not in the thunder, earthquake, or fire, but in the silence.  made me think about how when we were in korea i missed being out of the big city noise.  but now that we’re here in new mexico surrounded by nature, i can still get caught up in life and not take the time to listen.  it also made me think of how i take for granted the beauty around us.

so we got Leia spayed this week.  she’s been walking around with a belly wrap for a few days.  seems to be recovering though.  since i wasn’t blogging 6 months ago i didn’t get to post this video i took of marley and leia wrestling when leia was still just a cute little puppy.

both leia and marley are now quite a bit bigger now but still just as entertaining.  marley, despite her size is about the loudest child i’ve ever heard.  not as talkative as zoe was, but when she talks she definitely makes herself heard.

got the day off of school tomorrow for MLK day but have to go to school for an inservice…gotta love it.  going to try to get up for basketball at 6:30 so i need to get some sleep.

adios for now

so this is the first post on this blog and my plan is that it is not my last.  of my many new year’s resolutions, posting to a blog on a weekly basis is hopefully not one that falls to the wayside.

looking back at 2009, which had its ups and downs but still was a great year, i see myself starting to get that itch to move on.  in spite of liking my job and volleyball team and loving new mexican food, i’ve been feeling that claustrophobic feeling of being in one place for a while.  i don’t know what it’s going to take to get me to settle down in one place “for good” but it hasn’t happened yet.

between now and whenever we do leave though, we do need to make the most of what we have while we’re here.  today was a great example of that.  when we were in korea i missed being in the country.  i missed the outdoors.  i missed big, blue skies. and i wanted to have a house with a yard so i could have a dog.  well, today we went for a hike around campus on a beautifully clear day with our dog.  here are some pictures.

christmas break was a nice opportunity to spend some good time with laura and the kids.  the fall semester usually results in me being away quite a bit.  the volleyball season demands a lot of my time and even when it ends i spend the rest of the semester trying to catch up at school.  the break gave me time to finally do stuff with the kids.

last week zoe and i went to glenn’s bakery for a breakfast burrito for me and a donut for zoe.  zoe also chose to dress herself which is always entertaining.  afterwards we went sledding on the hill behind the elementary school.  it was zoe’s first time really sledding and she handled it like a rock star.  launched over a small tree, almost crashed out over a pile of rocks and yet still wanted to keep on sledding.

today zoe and marley also spent some time paint with a new paint set they got for christmas.  it always takes me about 5 minutes of attempting to keep them from getting paint all over themselves before i realize that it’s like trying to stop a speeding train by standing in front of it.  then i tell myself that it will all wash out in the end and soon everyone’s having fun.

so it’s late and i need to get some sleep but i’m proud of myself for getting this blog started and expect you to be too.  the plan is to keep it going and i don’t mind getting emails of reminder so that i get it done.

adios for now
